About UYDEC

Upper Yarra and Dandenongs Environment Council is an umbrella group that supports grassroots environmental groups operating in the Upper Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges. The Upper Yarra Valley & Dandenong Ranges Region is home to over 70 grassroots environment groups. Membership of UYDEC is available to groups only, but membership does not preclude UYDEC supporting or working on issues related to non-members groups when requested by those groups. UYDEC will also support the environmental goals of other individuals, communities or other types of groups as our resources allow.

Aims and Objectives:

  • The overriding objective of UYDEC is to ensure by every possible means the preservation and conservation of the Upper Yarra & Dandenongs Region;
     
  • Issues of regional environmental significance shall take priority. This shall be done by:
    • Seeking representation on any appropriate authority where it is desirable to do so;
    • Co-operate with other interested groups; 
    • Co-operate with & if necessary make representation to Local, State and Federal government departments and authorities;
    • Promote a community awareness & participation in environmental matters; 
    • Support Victorian Government statements of planning policy for the Yarra Valley and Dandenongs in so far as they ensure the preservation & conservation of the Environment.
    • Where necessary formulate policies & guidelines for conservation & planning.
